Space-Comm Expo Practical Workshop
At the Space-Comm Expo in Glasgow in September 2024, we hosted an interactive workshop that attracted nearly 90 attendees, ranging from students to space professionals. The session focused on pressing issues like space debris and the environmental impact of future missions. Participants engaged in real-world game scenarios and explored cutting-edge AI tools developed by the Institute. These tools help assess the global health of the space environment, evaluate the impact of new satellite missions, and assist operators in collision avoidance.

ASTRAIOS Project
The Institute on AI for Space Sustainability is addressing the growing skills gap in the space sector through its involvement in ASTRAIOS—a Horizon Europe project. ASTRAIOS aims to align current training with the future needs of the expanding European space industry, ensuring a skilled and dedicated workforce.
Key Objectives:
-
Mapping Career Paths: Identifying the roles and skills needed in the evolving space sector.
-
Analysing Space-Related Education: Assessing existing educational programmes to find gaps and opportunities.
-
Developing a Unified Terminology: Creating a common language to improve communication between academia and industry.
By bridging the gap between academic training and industry demands, ASTRAIOS helps prepare professionals for the challenges of the future. In collaboration with key partners, the project leverages the UK's experience in space skills analysis to develop joint solutions with European counterparts.
Through this work, the Institute is helping to shape the future space workforce and support a sustainable, competitive industry.
